FROM PODCAST TO PAGES

A podcast turned chapbook

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In this project, we were asked to pick a podcast episode that we enjoyed and translate that audio into book form, paying attention to layout and aesthetics. I picked an episode from This American Life.

PROJECT CONCEPT/DESIGN GOALS

When designing my book, I focused on the topic of the episode. It was all about what life might be like under different circumstances. To me, that translated into visuals of seeing various paths and timelines and connecting the dots of impactful moments from our lives. With this, I came up with a visual system that uses string-like lines to push the reader from one page to the next. There were four unique stories, so I chose four separate string colors. For images, I wanted to focus on close-ups and visuals that weren’t automatically recognizable. I wanted the readers to stay curious.

The title and cover was designed from the episode’s idea of taking different paths.

The cover of the chapbook was designed from the idea of choices made and timelines that could have been.
